ArtiGras 2015

ArtiGras @Centre for Creativity and EnterpriseWell friends, colleagues, crafters, artists and festival aficionados … planning for ArtiGras 2015 has now begun and we have some exciting projects and people who’ll be involved with the 2015 celebrations.

You may remember the giant urinal in Herne Bay, who could forget, it did cause quiet a stir and was mentioned both in the press and on television.  The triple award winning Marcel Duchamp Festival commissioned Nagual Creations  to produce a giant replica of Marcel Duchamp’s iconic urinal for the centenary of his historical sabbatical to Herne Bay in Kent.  Phillip Long, the artist who designed and built it will be working with us to create the ‘piece de resistance’ of the festival to honour a famous Kentish resident from the 16th Century.  Here is one of his sayings just to give you a hint: “Would you be the man who should recommend me to quit the peaceful haven where I now pass my life and launch again upon the faithless sea? You know full well what a storm my former lucubrations raised. Much better is it oftentimes to grow wise at home and in private, than by publishing what you have amassed with infinite labour, to stir up tempests that may rob you of peace and quiet for the rest of your days”. Celebrating Creative Ashford

ArtiGras @Centre for Creativity and EnterpriseBefore organising a festival, I never thought about the work that goes into it.  Last year’s Ashford Festival of Arts and Technology was an eye opener. For those who have never organised one, let me tell you that it is work that requires military precision and nerves of steel.  But we learnt a lot and I’m really glad we chose to do it.  The festival was a first, and despite not having done much promotion because of lack of enough organisers, funding and time, we managed to attract hundreds of visitors and have lots and lots of fun in the process.

So we decided to do more of them this year and the first one coming your way is ArtiGras which will take place on the 16th and 17th May in Ashford High Street.  Because we love Ashford and think it deserves the baddest festival ever, we’re throwing the biggest and best one ever yet.  But we can’t do this without you of course, residents of Ashford, community organisations, businesses and supporters.  There are already 20 or so stalls booked, amazing bands and performers on board, and lots of guys and gals making lots of amazing things to brighten the street. ArtiGras

ArtiGras @Centre for Creativity and EnterpriseWell, it’s the New Year and time for festivals and fairs fast approaching.

ArtiGras is a new festival coming to Ashford High Street – Kent – in May (16th and 17th May, Lower High Street).  It will be delivered by the Centre for Creativity and Enterprise and an army of volunteers, creatives, artists and makers.  The concept is somewhere between Mardi Gras and a street festival and will bring to town live music, arts and crafts stalls, street artists and performers, and a whole host of amazing and dazzling colourful displays.

To make this happen we need help! We’re looking for crocheters and knitters, makers, designers, volunteers to man the festival, local artists to display their work and, most importantly, Ashfordians and visitors to come and enjoy the event with us.  So if you have any ideas you would like to discuss, if you are a voluntary organisation or an individual in Ashford and would like to contribute or you would like to help in any other way, do get in touch by emailing us at info@cce-ashford.org or join us on Facebook www.facebook.com/creativityenterprise or Twitter https://twitter.com/info_cce.

Let’s just hope that the weather Gods favour the event. We’ll have fun in any weather anyway so let’s get started …

The Team at the CCE
